Motherhood: The Good, the Hard, and the Hilarious

Greenlight is thrilled to present an evening with Kimberly Harrington and Kate Rope, authors of new books that tackle motherhood with warmth and hilarious honesty. Kimberly Harrington presents Amateur Hour, a poetic and funny exploration of motherhood, womanhood, and humanhood, not necessarily in that order. With accessibility and wit, she captures the emotions around parenthood in artful and earnest ways, highlighting this time in the middle – midlife, the middle years of childhood, how women are stuck in the middle of so much.  Kate Rope presents Strong as a Mother, a practical and compassionate guide to preparing for a smooth start to motherhood. With humor and grace, Strong as a Mother is the only guide to being the Sanest Mommy on the Block. Harrington and Rope discuss the highs, lows, fierce loving and weird wonder of motherhood at tonight’s event, followed by a signing and Q&A.

“I Might Be Wrong,” “Let Down,” “Worrywort,” and “I am Citizen Insane” may be Radiohead songs, but they’re also accurate descriptions of Kimberly Harrington’s parenting. Smart, irreverent, candid, and hysterically funny, this sharp-tongued essayist is a rising star, with her pieces on Medium and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency routinely attracting hundreds of thousands of readers. Harrington’s first book, AMATEUR HOUR: Motherhood in Essays and Swear Words is a humorous and honest exploration of the highs and lows of being a parent (or just being human) in a world marked by contradictions, pressures, hypocrisy, social media, and lovable, if loud, children.
